You can’t predict, but you can prepare.
Local government prepares for everyday emergencies. However, during a disaster, the number and scope of incidents can quickly overwhelm conventional emergency services. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is an all-risk, all hazard training course that is available through A Work of Life and designed to help protect yourself, your family, your neighbors and community in an emergency situation.
CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations where citizens may initially be on their own. Many people would love to be able to provide assistance in the event of an emergency, but without training their assistance may not be adequate or appropriate. One goal of the CERT program is to train people to help themselves and others effectively and efficiently.
A Work Of Life has developed a CERT plan to reach out to Middle Tennessee and beyond. A team of XX volunteers have learned to:
manage utilities and put out small fires
treat the three medical killers (by opening airways, controlling bleeding and treating for shock)
provide basic medical aid
search for and rescue victims safely
organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective
collect disaster intelligence to support first responder efforts.
The A Work of Life CERT organization is working to equip a Xx foot trailer with all the equipment and supplies needed to be prepared to respond to a disaster or emergency within X hours of the event. By reaching out and assisting people when they need it most, A Work of Life trained volunteers can bring hope and healing to individuals who would not normally come in contact with these volunteers.
By being prepared, we can respond.
